The information we collect is in order to create the best service and user experience for our community and website users. We are committed to protecting your personal information and your right to privacy. What personal data we collect and why we collect it

We automatically collect certain information when you visit, use or navigate the Website. This information does not reveal your specific identity (like your name or contact information) but may include device characteristics, operating system, language preferences, referring URLs, device name, country, location, information about how and when you use our website and other technical information. This information is primarily needed to maintain the security and operation of our Website, and for our internal analytics and reporting purposes. 

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Contact Form

When a visitor submits a contact form, we store the information that they provided in our database. These can include email address, name, subject and message. This is in addition to the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection. We do not share or sell the submitted information in the contact forms to any third parties. If users would like to contact us without using the contact form on our website, they can email us directly at hello@theolivetreeproject.com.

Donations

When a visitor submits a donation,  a third party online payment processor (either Stripe or Paypal) processes the transaction.  Payments are secured and encrypted through Stripe and/or Paypal. The donor chooses the whether the payment is processed through Stripe or Paypal by choosing the payment method. 

The Olive Tree Project does not store any credit card or financial information. However, the information we do store in our database include the other provided information. This includes: name, company name, email address, IP address and transaction details such as date and amount. This information is stored for OTP’s financial records . We will never be shared or sold to any third parties.

Cookies

We use cookies from third party vendors like Google for internal analytics. Google Analytics mainly uses first-party cookies to report on user interactions on the website. They inform us how to best serve our community’s needs and to create the best user experience possible.  Most browsers allow you to control how cookies get used as you’re browsing. If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

We use Google Analytics for traffic analysis (i.e. to understand how users engage with our website). Google Analytics collects first party cookies, data related to the device/browser, IP address and on-site activities to measure and report statistics about user interaction and the websites. We do not sell any analytics to third party vendors.

Who we share your data with

We do not sell user data to any third party vendors. As the website uses Google Analytics to understand user engagement, Google collects first party cookies, data related to the device/browser, IP address and on-site activities. 

 Donations submitted by donors are processed by third party online processors, either Stripe or Paypal. The donor chooses the payment method, which corresponds to the third party processing service – Stripe or Paypal. 

 

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue. 

When users subscribe to our newsletter or join our community, we collect their data in our database and its retained indefinitely. Users can choose to unsubscribe and request that we delete their data at any time. 

What rights do you have over your data

If you have subscribed, filled out a message form or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where we send your data

We value your privacy and do not sell your data to any third party vendors. User comments can be checked through by The Olive Project IT team to  an automated spam detection service. 

Additional information

How we protect your data

Protecting your information is important to us. We have enabled SSL protocol that secures and encrypts the users’ data. Our hosting company’s servers have advanced security modules that provide the highest security level available today.  

All donation transaction data are secured and encrypted through Stripe and/or Paypal, depending on the modality of payment. 

Personal data request

It is your right to request your data and/or have it erased. If you’d to export your data please send a request to hello@theolivetreeproject.com.
